The game was over but the score was still up when we got to Chidlow marking a good win by the Tigers over their inaccurate top-of-the-table rivals. Chidlow has won the past two Hills Football Association premierships and will play finals again in 2019.

The first Australian football competition in the Hills area started in 1902 and featured a team called Chidlow’s Well. Chidlow was a founding member when the Hills Football Association was formed in 1946 and won the first premiership.

A light-hearted feature in the The Mirror in 1938 pointed out that Perth star Harry Davey worked in the grocery store in Chidlow and came down from the Hills twice a week to train at the WACA. The wingman also ventured to the city for games on Saturdays.

Chidlow was a popular stop for passengers on the overnight train from Kalgoorlie to Perth up until the early 1970s – it was famous for its pies and pasties, fortifying travellers for the last hour or so of the journey to the capital city.
