Glenthompson/Dunkeld, Victoria

Glenthompson and Dunkeld are ten minutes apart on the Glenelg Highway in western Victoria. Three-quarters of the way between Ballarat (to the north-east) and Hamilton (to the west).

Guest photographer JD took these pics, and those of other local grounds, before a Covid lockdown sent him back to the big smoke. A week away in the west became a night away in Dunkeld.

The football and netball club’s website tells us:

The Rams were formed in 2004 as the result of a merger between the Glenthompson Football Netball Club (Bloods) and Dunkeld Football Netball Club (Kangaroos).

Prior to merging with Dunkeld, the Glenthompson Football Netball Club had competed in the Mininera and District Football League for more than half a century, winning senior grade flags in a number of years. Dunkeld had enjoyed a similarly lengthy involvement in the competition but had proved rather less successful, procuring just a single senior grade premiership in 1976.

In 2010 the Rams won their first MDFL flag, topping the ladder with 16 wins from 16 matches before accounting for Tatyoon in the grand final by 49 points
