What a pleasant surprise it was to see the scoreboard at Watheroo not only sitting up on the back of a truck but displaying a score on my latest visit.

The bare ground-level scoreboard had presented a photographic challenge on previous viewings in 2019 and 2021. This time there were signs of footy life.

The game has been around in Watheroo for a while  – the football club celebrated its centenary in 2003 – but had its last season in the Central Midlands Coast Football League in 2004.

The glory years were the mid to late 1970s that included four consecutive Central Midlands FL premiership from 1974 to 1977. Watheroo-Namban also celebrated a flag in 1933.
