Walking the handful of streets that is the town centre of Cobram a local asked if we needed any help.
“Where’s the footy ground?”
“Just up the road. Scott Reserve.”
“How did Cobram go this year?
“Won the flag last weekend!”
“Close?”
“Three points.”
“You were there?”
“I was goal umpiring!”
“Yeah?”
“Most of the action was not at my end , so it was fairly relaxing. Out of 40 scoring shots I only had to judge 13. And most of them were points. Congupna kicked 5.21.”
“The Cobram ground got an an old scoreboard?”
“Don’t think any of the grounds around here have got old scoreboards anymore.”
But, as I found in my travels, the grounds have not demolished the old scoreboards. Yet.
