Football Park, South Australia, 2003 – and another flag for Central District. The Bulldogs played a remarkable 12 consecutive Grand Finals from 2000 to 2011, winning nine flags along the way. In 2003 they defeated West Adelaide 17.9 (111) to 11.11 (77).

Football Park, 2006. The sun sets on another SANFL season, with Woodville-West Torrens defeating Central District 17.19 (121) to 7.3 (45) – a rare Grand Final loss for the Bulldogs.

The sun well and truly set on Football Park just a few weeks ago, with the ground facing the same destiny as Waverley Park in Victoria – the ground will be retained (as a training base for the Adelaide Crows) but the surrounds will be subdivided.

Thanks to Eric Algra for these photos. Welcome to Scoreboard Pressure, Eric. Visit Eric’s blog  for some very fine photography, from Melbourne to rural Australia to New York to Cardiff. And some vintage Midnight Oil too.

  1. Love the first photograph. Have very fond memories of that day – and the other eight flags the Doggies won in this amazing era. As for 2006, I can handle losing that one. We played the Eagles six times in the GF for four wins – we lost the last two times we played them (06 and 11).
The 11 loss hurt though, I must admit.
