Blacktown, NSW

BlacktownScoreboardThe footy oval at Blacktown is part of the Blacktown International Sportspark located in Rooty Hill. (We apologise for taking so long to introduce Rooty Hill into this site.)
Last year the NEAFL hosted the WAFL in an inter-league match at Blacktown and the locals started well by kicking the first two goals. The more experienced WAFL team then took over and won easily 19.18 (132) to 6.11 (47).
Ashton Hams won the Simpson Medal as the WAFL’s best player, Ben Saunders kicked five goals, captain Brendan Lee was outstanding and Tallan Ames ended up in hospital after a big knock to the ribs.
A merry band of AFL recruiters would have been there ignoring experienced players such as those mentioned above. Blaine Boekhorst from Swan Districts was the one who would have got them tapping into their iPads or reaching for their green biros. Boekhorst was dynamic in this game and later drafted to Carlton despite trouble with injuries as the season progressed.
It turned out that Boekhorst was a keen Blues fan and liked to express himself on Twitter. It earned him a new nickname…

I watched the game on an internet feed and was impressed by the scoreboard and its stark Eastern Bloc look.
