You’ll find Coorow about 275km north of Perth. Footy has been played there for over 100 years but in 1971 there was a merger that led to the formation of the Coorow-Latham Football Club – the Magpies.
An interesting Coorow product is Alan Reid who played 105 games for East Fremantle, 45 for Essendon and seven for Geelong. Reid played in East Fremantle’s 1974 premiership team and was part of WA’s first state of origin team in 1979.
When the North Midlands Football League named its best ever team in 2013 it contained seven Magpies: Murray Wallace, Ric West, Wes Morcombe, Dale Fowler, Steve Peters, Terry McDonald and Mal Just.
The scoreboard is an uncomplicated structure with the magpie adding an artistic flourish.
Maley Park is recognised as having one of the best surfaces in the district.
