There are some who need reminding of Tasmania’s history, and place, in Australian rules football. Cygnet Football Club has been around since 1906 (when it was called Lovett).
Known as The Port, the club won 31 premierships in the Huon Football League before joining the Southern Football League in 1998. Cygnet won the SFL Regional League premiership in 2002 and 2003, one of the stars during that period was Michael Darcy who kicked over 100 goals in 2003, 2004, 2005, and 2007.
The scoreboard photos were taken in 2012 by Michael Wearne during his scoreboardpressure.com sponsored trip around Australia.
The team photo is from portcygnet.free.fr and shows the Cygnet Football Club circa 1922.
We like the shelter at the side of the scoreboard… an attendant could live in there. Heaven.
This scoreboard, although still standing, is no longer in use. The Cygnet Football Club now have a smaller Scoreboard Solutions electronic board just near it.
Thanks Smelly. It’s lucky Michael got there… it will live on here.
