Around the grounds – 23 August 2011

Artist and football lover Jim Pavlidis, who sent Scoreboard pressure photos of the Springfield Park scoreboard at Box Hill North, has a new exhibition, Winter Masterpieces. It is at the Letitia Morris Gallery, 1156 High St Armadale, Victoria and runs from Saturday 27 August to Saturday 17 September.

The exhibition playfully matches masterpieces by Dali, Manet, Fra Angelico, Michaelangelo, Jackson Pollock and other artists with classic footy moments, including Fitzroy’s demise, Dermott Brereton’s 1989 Grand Final comeback, Helen D’Amico’s 1987 Grand Final streak, and the last home at Western Oval (with a glimpse of the final score).

For a preview, visit Jim’s website.

You’ll also find two of Jim’s scoreboard pieces of art on the ‘prints’ part of his website. There is a lithograph of the highest score at Junction Oval and an etching of the 1977 drawn Grand Final scoreboard.

Scroll down the ‘prints’ page and you’ll find them. You won’t be disappointed.
