DR Morrison Oval, Kalgoorlie, Western Australia

The scoreboard wasn’t ticking over when I visited DR Morrison Oval on Sunday 18 December 2016. There were three reasons for this…

  1. Tight bowling from St George had the Kambalda batsmen tied down.
  2. The outfield was a little slow after a downpour on Saturday.
  3. The scoreboard was only updated every now and then.

The Friendlies have a long history as a secondary competition on the Goldfields and played for a long time at Boulder Oval. (I learned this week that the turf pitches have been removed from Boulder Oval). The other teams in the KFSCA are Goldrush, Hibernians, Veterans, Golden City, Kalgoorlie Colts and Locomotives – names that reflect the semi-serious nature of the competition as well as its history.

DR Morrison Oval is a relatively new facility and also hosts Masters footy games.

By the way St George 8/131 beat Kambalda 9/129 with nine balls to go.
