Sutherlands is the home of the Gosnells Cricket Club, a relative newcomer to the WACA District competition – admitted in 1987.

I’d heard Sutherlands had a real scoreboard and the club liked it.

A diligent young man operated the board on my visit for a one-day game between Gosnells and a star-studded Fremantle line-up that included Shaun Marsh, Mitch Marsh, Ashton Turner and Jhye Richardson. Gosnells did well to restrict Fremantle to 8/225. Shaun Marsh made 26 and Mitch 59. Matt Leipold’s 2/39 included the wickets of Shaun Marsh and Turner and he also deflected the ball onto the stumps to bring Mitch Marsh’s innings to an unlucky end.

Gosnells looked on track for a while but the dismissal of Leipold for 60 made things a bit too difficult and the home team was all out for 187.
