Whitfield, King Valley, Victoria

It was our anniversary.*

We’d spent the Sunday in Seymour (rehearsing for a Stereo Stories show in Wangaratta in February).

We then drove up to Wangaratta.

Stayed in a motel overlooking 20 lawn tennis courts. Twenty!

On the Monday we said, Let’s take the back roads. The high roads.

We stopped at Whitfield, where the scoreboard was surprisingly large. And electronic.

The Whitfield ground, we learnt, is home of the King Valley Football and Netball Club. Go the Roos.

Then it was on to Mansfield and Yarck, and Yea.

*29 years.

Alas, no lawn courts at Whitfield.

Patience wearing thin, Julie doesn't even stop by the pavilion. I point and click and keep quiet.

  1. Congratulations on your anniversary, Vin!

Keep up the good work from “around the grounds”-chronicling our proud community football history.

    Regards,
