It was my first visit to Koorda. I knew about it as the home of Troy and Justin Longmuir but my travels just hadn’t taken me there. The scoreboard immediately took my eye, the fresh paint job ensured that. A check inside the clubrooms showed we have at least one kindred spirit in Koorda – there are photos of grand final scoreboards on the walls.
Koorda won the Central Wheatbelt Football League premiership in 2017, scoreboard photos on the wall tell of premierships in 2008 and 2014.

The Longmuirs had good footy careers – Troy played 83 AFL games for Melbourne, Fremantle and Carlton and was a premiership player with West Perth in 2003 while Justin played 139 AFL games for Fremantle and is now the senior coach. However Koorda’s greatest product is Laurie Green a premiership player with South Fremantle in 1948, 1950 and 1953 during the club’s golden era. Green won South’s fairest and best award in 1949. His grandson Chadd was best-on-ground for Koorda in 2017 grand final.
Heading out of town I spotted another highlight… the (digital) drive-in… what a town.
