St Augustine’s JFC have Under 10s, 12s & 14s teams in the Echuca-based Goulburn Campaspe JFL, and have now started playing under strict COVID-19 conditions. They are a feeder club to the strong Kyabram Bombers.

The Northern Oval is the home of the St Augustine’s Junior Football Club, the Kyabram Netball Association, Kyabram Phoenix Junior Soccer Club and the Kyabram Fire Brigade Cricket Club.

I hadn’t been to the ground since they renovated it to fit in two soccer pitches and re-do the turf wicket and oval to face North-South (it originally faced North East-South West).  Although the grass is nice and there’s a good cricket net there, there’s no shelter near the ground and nowhere to park along the fence on those miserable winter days (a must in community sport), but there’s plenty of space for the kids to run around, so there’s a plus.

The netball association has a great set up with over 9 Courts (that can be used for tennis too.)  The junior soccer club only trains on the site, as they play all there games in Shepparton. (They did have a senior side for a few years, but it has since folded.)

The Kyabram Fire Brigade Cricket Club has always been a strong team. It has produced quality players over the years, includingn former Test leg-spinner, Jim Higgs who got his start playing for Fire Brigade, before reaching the highest levels of cricket.

Coming up soon: visits to grounds at Lancaster and Merrigum.
