Bruthen, Victoria

Bruthen, The Bulldogs, currently play in the Omeo and District Football Netball League, which only has 6 clubs. Seniors and Under 16’s, no Reserves. Other clubs are Lindenow South, Swan Reach, Buchan, Swifts Creek and Omeo Benambra.

Bruthen was formed in 1893 and has played in the Gippsland League and the East Gippsland League when they had a reserves side.  In the mid 1970s they struggled and in 1976 they won the wooden spoon in both seniors and reserves and did not win one match in either

Bruthen entered the ODFNL in 1978 and has enjoyed considerable success. Like many country clubs their ground is next door to a caravan park. Being relatively close to Bairnsdale, it is much easier for them to recruit players.  It unusually has a turf cricket wicket and a hard synthetic wicket in the middle of its ground.
