Now a popular free camping spot, Pumphrey’s Bridge was once a sporting and social hub with footy, tennis and cricket on offer and a community hall. The old bridge has seen better days.

Nestled among trees the rickety scoreboard has survived from the club’s time in the Pingelly and Brookton-Pingelly Football Associations. Ubiquitous WA country footy player, coach and administrator Bud Byfield captained Pumphrey’s to a premiership in 1955. Those who played footy and cricket there say it could be: “Bloody cold or bloody hot.”
