Kevin Shorten Reserve is home to the West Footscray Football Club (the red Roosters) and Druids Cricket Club (the purple Wizards).

It’s also pretty much the setting for William McInnes’s 2006 novel Cricket Kings, a very enjoyable yarn.

The Robert ‘Krackers’ Walker Scoreboard  is presumably out of action these days, supplanted by a modern black  scoreboard that comes to life and colour when all the wires and pixels and cords and plugs and keyboards are in alignment.

I considered clambering up the ladder, over the clatter, but figured I might come a cropper. Maybe another day, when I’m more game.
