Kempton, Tasmania

Photos and words by Chris Rees (@4Boat on Twitter)

Kempton footy ground hosted the Battle At The Bottom yesterday between Woodsdale Lions (green/red) and Oatland Tigers (orange/black). Both winless after two rounds of the Oatlands District Football Association, Woodsdale and Oatlands each came out of recess last year. Oatlands won zero games in 2022 and Woodsdale won two, against – yes  –  Oatlands.
The ‘home’ team in the game at Kempton was Woodsdale because their own ground (which I blogged here) needs work before it can host games.   They are playing at Kempton, who are  also in recess; Kempton are the Magpies,  hence the magpie artwork on the scoreboard.
Last time I was there were small numbers from the Woodsdale scoreboard but today there were much more practical big numbers.
Woodsdale was edging a close contest until Oatlands kicked three on the trot with the help of some mysterious 50m penalties, probably for colourful language. They hung on for their first win in 1386 days! And sung the song with gusto (familiar words of Tigerland with everyone shouting ‘ORANGE AND BLACK!’).
Smaller numbers, from a visit on a non-game day in 2022.
