Willetton, Western Australia

Willetton won the C1 premiership in the WAAFL in 2018 and moved up to B-grade in 2019.

Formed in 1976 the club followed the SSMFL and SFL pathway on the way to the amateurs but with a twist. In 1998 the footy club went into recess when it couldn’t field a colts team as was required in the Sunday Football League. In 1999 Willetton joined the WAAFL (now Perth Football League).

The footy scoreboard at Burrendah Park  is, unusually for WA grounds, on the western side of the oval. On our visit it was being guarded by dog whose only demand was to be thrown a stick every now and again.

The Willetton Districts Cricket Club grew out of the ashes of West Perth CC. It’s the club of Brad Hogg and Cameron Bancroft along with D’Arcy Short who smashed 257 for WA in a one-day domestic cup game in 2018/19.
